Jillian O’Neill

Authentic Education Consultant

Jillian O’Neill (she/her) has almost 20 years of experience in education as a middle school Spanish teacher. She recently left the classroom to take a position in her school division’s administration office as one of Teacher Support and Retention Coordinators and where she assists with developing the mentor program for new teachers and other recruitment and retention efforts. In addition to supporting teachers and students in the PreK–12 classroom, Jillian also works as an adjunct instructor for the local community college. She teaches aspiring educators in courses including Foundations of Education, Child Development, Teaching in a Diverse Society, and Teaching Exceptional Learners.

Jillian is passionate about instruction and truly enjoys learning as much as she can about instructional strategies and how to create a learning environment where all teachers and students can be successful. She has a bachelor’s degree in World Language Education with a minor in Spanish from Penn State University, a Master’s in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mary Washington, and a Master’s of Education with a focus on Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of William & Mary.

In her free time, Jillian enjoys spending time with her husband and her dog, Coco, as well as catching some music or karaoke with friends. She loves reading and cooking between classes and work, although she has never quite mastered baking.

Unpacking world language standards into what we want our students to KNOW (knowledge) and be able to DO (skills) narrows our focus.
A primary goal of UbD is to make meaning of learning by way of “big ideas” and to transfer learning and this can be applied to all subject areas.
